Jon Franks returns home to the community where he was raised. Born in Cleveland, Tennessee, Jon moved to Calhoun when he was two years old. He attended Calhoun Elementary School in Kindergarten through eighth grade. After moving away for college, he returned home to Calhoun for three years before moving to Athens. He began his teaching career in at Ocoee Middle School (2004-2006) teaching 6th grade Language Arts. In 2006 he came home to McMinn County when he accepted a position at Rogers Creek Elementary School (2006-2014) teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Language Arts. In 2014 he was hired as the assistant principal at Niota Elementary School (2014-2020) and the following year he was promoted to principal. Jon is excited to be at Calhoun to serve as principal at his home school. His older sister, the late Melissa Hershey, was a former Language Arts teacher at Calhoun and is also a member of the distinguished Calhoun School Hall of Fame. Jon has deep roots in Calhoun as his grandparents, mother, aunts, and siblings all attended Calhoun Elementary and/or High School. He still attends Calhoun First Baptist Church where he has been a member since he was a child. Jon definitely believes in the phrase “Once a Mink, Always a Mink”.
Jon is married to his wife Karen, a 5th grade math teacher at Westside Elementary School in Athens. They have two children: Chipper is a sophomore at Walker Valley High School and Karaline is a 7th grader at Athens City Middle School. They also have a seven year old English Bulldog, Chubb. Jon enjoys watching Chipper play baseball and football, Karaline perform dance recitals, and riding around in his Jeep. He is a die-hard fan of the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs.
